23-year-old unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is seemingly on the verge of unifying his titles with WBC champion Devin Haney. However, Lopez has several more options considering that the lightweight roster is full of unbeaten world champions.

That said, heavyweight legend Mike Tyson might be rooting for Lopez vs Haney as ‘Take Over’ claims to have been instigated by ‘Iron’ Mike to accept the fight.

In an interaction with Sky Sports, ‘Take Over’ revealed how Tyson tried to persuade him for the fight against ‘The Dream’ and enjoyed the banter between the current lightweight champions.

“Things that he (Mike Tyson) told me you know, we gotta make these fights happen. You know he was a lot of instigating when it came to you know, we had face-timed Devin Haney. You know he was talking smack with him on his show, Mike was enjoying it. Mike was having fun,” said Teofimo Lopez.

Teofimo Lopez also receives some great advice

Recalling the whole interaction, Lopez said,  “The whole thing that he told me man, just keep beating them, pretty much. You know just keep beating them, enjoy the moment, but don’t let it take away from what your set goals are, and I took that a lot in there. He said, take care of your family. Take care of the those that you love, your wife, and all those. And I am like, Okay, I take all that.”

Lopez is already a boxing superstar, and 2021 could be the year to enhance that superstardom. He has already beaten Vasyl Lomachenko to reach the top of his division, and now it’s time to test himself against the other unbeaten youngsters.
