The undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez took to the airwaves and spoke to Kevin Iole from Yahoo Sports. ‘El Brooklyn’ did a deep dive into the biggest win of his professional career, where he earned a decision win over Vasyl Lomachenko. Not to mention, the event charted milestone numbers in terms of viewership, and Lopez’s star is burning bright.
The 12-round affair saw Lopez start off strong and negate ‘Loma’s patented movement and pace from the get-go. ‘El Brooklyn’ rallied deep into the fight as well when ‘The Matrix’ began pouring on the pressure. In fact, Lopez rose to the occasion by landing 50 strikes in the last round, more than any of Lomachenko’s previous opponents.

However, the new undisputed champion wanted the challengers to go through the same rigorous grind that he’s been through.

He said, “I think that these guys, they need me. You know what I mean, I don’t need them… We are the kings at 135. We own and we run 135. I think a lot of them are just… they just want to get a piece of the pie. I think that’s not gonna work. They have to do their part, we did our part. We got the job done. We did things that they didn’t wanna do. But we stepped up to the plate and chose to do that and we got the victory.”

‘El Brooklyn’ also touched upon his desire to make a move towards consolidating the 140-pound division. Moreover, this sentiment was also expressed by his father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr. at the post-fight press conference.

Lopez said, “I think the best thing I’d wanna do is to unify for 140 and collect another. To be the first two-time back to back undisputed champion in a four-belt era.”
He continued, “So the winner out of Taylor and Ramirez I think would be awesome for all the fans and hopefully we’ll be able to have some fans for 2021.”
