The unified lightweight champion of the world, Teofimo Lopez, hit back at boxing legend Floyd Mayweather after his recent comments. Earlier, Mayweather had stated that Gervonta Davis is going to be the A-side in a match-up against Teofimo Lopez.
The comments have not gone well with the 23-year-old boxer as he rained down on Floyd Mayweather soon thereafter. “That’s Floyd you know, that’s Floyd speaking.
“Floyd is speaking for Tank. I think Tank needs to step up, he’s a grown a** man, he needs to talk. He doesn’t need Mayweather to always talk for him,” Tank said in an interview given to iFL TV.

Lopez criticized Mayweather for constantly speaking on behalf of Tank Davis. He also added that the former champion is trying to stay relevant by remaining in the spotlight.

“I think Mayweather is still trying to be relevant, I am gonna be honest, I am gonna be blunt. I am gonna be blunt as hell right now, I think Floyd is still trying to find ways to stay relevant. So he uses Tank Davis, he talks to the media for him.
“Let Tank do his own talking. Let Tank be a man. Stop babying the man. I think Floyd is crazy for this man to think that Tank will be the A-side. It’s ridiculous.”
Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is managed by Floyd Mayweather Promotions. Needless to say, the boxing legend wants the Tank to receive a higher pay cut from the revenue if the match-up against Teofimo Lopez does take place.

“We know Gervonta Tank Davis is one of the biggest names in boxing,” Mayweather said.
It’s a hard trade, and something that is going to be very difficult to execute. The Takeover is fresh off a historic win against former pound-for-pound best Vasyl Lomachenko and will look to land fights that are in his favor.
Additionally, he is also the unified lightweight champion, while Davis holds the WBA lightweight championship.
Will Teofimo Lopez fight Tank Davis?
Teofimo Lopez is the new star in the lightweight division. Needless to say, dethroning Vasyl Lomachenko is not as easy as it might sound.

On the other side, Tank Davis is coming off a scintillating performance in a potential ‘Knockout of the Year’ outing against Léo Santa Cruz late last month.
“We know deep down, I am the undisputed champion. I earned the crown, I fought for the crown. Whatever it was, beat the best guy they had in the division. Collected all the belts. And you’re saying I am gonna be the B-side, you’re crazy man.”

However, boxing fans have argued that Teofimo Lopez is not the unified champion of the world courtesy of the WBA belt which is still wrapped around Davis’ waist.
