Terence Crawford is perhaps the most skilled boxer in today’s generation, which is a well-established fact. However, can ‘Bud’ defeat someone like Floyd Mayweather, who wrapped up his legendary career never knowing defeat? Ahead of the Canelo Alvarez fight, the Nebraska native has answered that question!
Unlike most boxers, Money Mayweather dominated the sport throughout his career, regardless of the challenges thrown at him. Even Canelo Alvarez couldn’t solve the puzzle that is Mayweather when the pair came face to face on September 14th, 2013, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez came into the fight with his power punches and a superior knockout ratio, but they were no match for Floyd Mayweather’s trademark defensive mastery. Ultimately, ‘Money’ secured a majority decision win. Regardless, with Crawford vs. Canelo on the brink of unfolding, the 37-year-old appeared in a podcast Ring Champs, with Ak & Barak.
During the conversation, the trio discussed Crawford’s relationship with Mayweather, and that’s when Akin Reyes popped the question—How do you beat Mayweather? Terence Crawford initially refused to answer, stating, “You think I would tell you.” When Reyes pressed further, highlighting that the retired boxer won’t fight anyone anymore, Crawford finally coughed up the answer!

“You got to have four arms and six eyes to beat Floyd,” Crawford told the hosts. While it’s true the 48-year-old never lost a fight but there have been times when he looked vulnerable. Jose Luis Castillo’s relentless pressure with body shots and high punch volume caused problems for Mayweather.

Even Oscar De La Hoya, under the guidance of Floyd Mayweather Sr., had caused some problems for 50-0 boxer, making him look human with his pressure fighting style. However, ultimately, Mayweather rallied back and won his fights. Coming back to Crawford, he clearly has much respect for the retired boxing legend. Despite that, he is out to break Mayweather’s record.

Terence Crawford claims the Canelo Alvarez fight can break the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao record
Terence Crawford believes his upcoming clash with Canelo Alvarez on September 13 could break the historic records set by Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2015. For context, that bout generated over $600 million in revenue, a $72 million gate, and 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. But Crawford sees even greater potential.

Canelo’s business manager, Richard Schaefer, echoed Crawford’s optimism. “This will be substantially bigger. I don’t remember any fight bigger than Canelo-Crawford.”
Terence Crawford’s strategy for beating Floyd Mayweather might sound unrealistic—but then again, no one has ever made defeating Mayweather look realistic. Do you agree with Crawford’s take? Or do you believe there’s someone out there who could finally humble ‘Money’ Mayweather?
