It’s safe to say that Terence Crawford is not getting his fight against Canelo Alvarez – no matter how badly he wants it. Since Canelo’s win over Jermell Charlo last year, a plethora of people have called out the Mexican star for a fight. However, Crawford’s trainer, Coach Spikes, claims, unlike other fighters, Crawford’s callouts aren’t hollow.

Not long ago, reports revealed that Canelo will fight Edger Berlenga on May 4 and Jaime Munguia in September. It’s a far cry from what fans wanted to see, but the veil of secrecy was finally lifted from Canelo’s future. In the meantime, there don’t seem to be a lot of options for Crawford. The same thing a reporter from Fight Hype brought up during the interview today with Spikes.

Coach Spikes claims they have options

Answering the reporter, Spikes claimed, “We [have] options. Our next fight might be at 54. It might be at 60 like we got – we have options. So, I don’t think that puts us in an uncomfortable position.” As for the Canelo fight, Spikes suggested Crawford’s motivation to call out Canelo is a lot different from other fighters.

“The thing about the Canelo fight, Bud, you know brother in the team like we’re serious about Canelo. We [are] not these guys that call people’s names just to get their names back you know what I mean,” said coach Spikes. He brought up Teofimo Lopez, who had called out ‘Bud’ Crawford, contemplating whether he was serious and does the public even want to see that fight.

“I’m not upset at a call out. I want to see the follow-through on a call-out. So, if you say Terence’s name, mean it and bring it to the table,” said Spikes. On the contrary, Spikes asserted when Bud called out Canelo, he was serious because they felt like “we can win that fight.” With the Canelo fight officially buried ten feet under – Crawford may face this undefeated boxer.

WBO president sheds light on new opponent for Terence Crawford

Tim Tszyu will face Keith Thurman on March 30. And if he pulls off a win, he is on a collision course against the undisputed king Crawford. The same was confirmed by the WBO president Paco Valcarcel in an interview with Fight Hype. So, Crawford might be gearing up to move up to super welterweight to face Tszyu.

“The winner of that fight will have a tough cookie for his next mandatory, let me tell you…Crawford will be here next week…We’re going to talk about that fight,” said Valcarcel. He also added, “I have been talking to Crawford for long now … he’ll be in Puerto Rico on Friday. You are the first person I’ve talked to about the possibility of Crawford moving to 154.”

With Canelo Alvarez fighting Jaime Munguia and Edger Berlenga, Crawford’s dream of fighting Canelo has shattered. However, his coach is adamant that Terence Crawford was serious about fighting Canelo. Meanwhile, Crawford may fight Tim Tszyu instead, if the latter can pull off a win later next month. Do you think Crawford could have beaten Canelo?
