The hits against Jermell Charlo just don’t stop coming! After his devastating loss against Canelo Alvarez, a legendary promoter has claimed Tim Tszyu could have also taken down Charlo. ‘Mell’ climbed two weight divisions to challenge Canelo Alvarez for all his titles. However, Canelo dominated all twelve rounds while going up against Charlo. Canelo even scored a knockdown in the seventh round as Jermell took a knee after a straight jab to the head.

With the results out in the open, many experts have declared Jermell was not at the same level as Canelo. Tim Tszyu himself had remarked about Charlo’s performance after the fight. He stated that Charlo made zero effort to win the match; instead, he just tried to survive. In a recent tweet, Lou DiBella, the legendary promoter, expressed a similar opinion.

Jermell Charlo wasn’t ready for Canelo Alvarez

In a recent tweet, besides claiming Tszyu could have beaten Charlo if he was in the ring instead of Canelo. DiBella felt the lay-off was quite evident during the fight and that it wasn’t just because of the weight difference. “The layoff would have mattered big time. It mattered vs. Canelo; that whitewash wasn’t about size difference,” DiBella wrote.

DiBella further explained that Canelo was at a different level and Charlo was not ready for the fight. “It was about levels and readiness to fight. Charlo wasn’t fight ready, imho. Just sayin,” DiBella stated in the tweet.

After his loss against the Mexican superstar, Charlo expressed his interest in fighting Terence Crawford. Currently, Crawford is the undisputed number one pound-for-pound fighter in the welterweight division. In response to the challenge from Charlo, Crawford went on a rant on X, sharing his opinion on the fight.

Crawford asserted that Charlo’s approach to the fight was to survive the twelve rounds rather than trying to win. He even went as far as to condemn Charlo by saying he should be ashamed. In a subsequent tweet, Crawford wrote he had lost interest in fighting Charlo because of his actions in the ring on Saturday night. He followed that tweet by congratulating Canelo while still taking digs at Charlo.
