WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is looking for a matchup against Shawn Porter in 2021 if Errol Spence Jr. and Manny Pacquiao avoid him for an in-ring collision.

‘Bud’ has been teasing a fight against ‘Pac-Man’ and ‘The Truth’ for a brief period. That said, the Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr. fight is also being touted as one of the biggest welterweight clashes in recent times.

However, it might not happen anytime soon. Following a long layoff, Spence Jr. returned to the ring against Danny Garcia and unveiled a sensational win via decision.

Meanwhile, ‘Bud’ ruled out inactivity as he eyed a fight against ‘Showtime’ Porter in 2021. Since Shawn Porter is the WBO mandatory challenger, it earned him a spot to challenge Crawford.

Speaking with Therealayeverb, Crawford opened up about the upcoming year, citing his possible future in the division. When asked about facing Porter, Crawford said, “Of course, that’s my mandatory.”

He added, “If he (Porter) exercises his mandatory and goes to the WBO and says, ‘I need that fight’, then that fight will have to happen unless I have other obligations with a unification.”

No ‘Pac-Man’ or ‘The Truth’ for Terence Crawford?

Well, Pacquiao doesn’t seem to be in a rush to chart a course to the boxing ring anytime soon. Similarly, Spence Jr. hasn’t hinted at facing Crawford in recent times either.

Additionally, the WBO champion has had a tough time with his promoter Bob Arum. So, 2021 still looks clumsy for ‘Bud’.

He might not want to put his possible fights at stake any further and had a coherent response to the boxing fans and matchmakers.

Speaking on a possible fight with Porter, ‘Bud’ added, “The only fight that can trump that is a unification fight. So, if I don’t get Errol Spence or Manny Pacquiao, then I will have to fight Shawn Porter.”

It further intensifies the welterweight tale, with so many elite matchups on the line. While 2020 paved the way for those matchups, it’s time to seal them in the coming year.
