Last Saturday, Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant engaged in a blistering tussle for the undisputed super-middleweight strap. Post this fight, many boxing pundits and former champs gave their true opinion on this epic clash. David Benavidez was one of them. He shed some light on Plant’s performance.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, he said, “I think he tried to fight Canelo the same way he fought Uzcategui. But honestly, that’s the only style he has. He’s not the type of fighter that if he needs to be in a brawl, he’ll stand there and have a shootout because he doesn’t have the power. I think that’s something you really need to beat Canelo.”

Plant relied heavily on his jabs in this fight. That said, he had an edge in terms of the number of jabs landed, which stood at 18% – Canelo landed only 14% jabs. Given Canelo’s short frame, this was expected.

That said, the p4p fighter went all guns blazing with his body shots on Plant. Moreover, he landed 41% power punches, i.e. 13% more than ‘Sweethands’.

Hence, even if the fight had gone to the judges, Canelo would have emerged as a clear winner.
