Streaming service Hulu is set to launch its new show ‘Mike’ based on the iconic life of boxing legend Mike Tyson. The series will premier on 25th August and will feature actor Trevante Rhodes as Tyson and Laura Harrier as Tyson’s ex-wife, Robin Givens.

However, back in 2015, there was an announcement that Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx agreed to play Tyson in a biopic. This led the fans to wonder why Rhodes got the lead role instead of Foxx.

Why is Jamie Foxx not playing Mike Tyson?

As it turns out, Foxx will be playing Tyson but in another biopic which is still in development. It will be directed by ‘Training Day’ director Antoine Fuqua and produced by Martin Scorsese. However, the production of the movie has been stalled on several occasions, with constant changes in producers and directors. But the latest modification gives us a much clearer picture to when we might finally see this story told.

Notably, no streaming service has been announced for this biopic, but rumors are that either Netflix or Amazon will premier it. Tyson has worked closely with production members, which is why he also boycotted the Hulu series and claimed that it was made without his permission.

After Hulu announced dropped the teaser for the series Tyson immediately came out and issued a statement on Instagram claiming that the series was unauthorized and that he wasn’t compensated for it. Moreover, He also stated that the series was an example of corporate greed and that it misappropriates his life story. “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.” Tyson wrote in a post which was deleted.

It looks like Iron Mike is not happy with the way Hulu released his biopic without his permission, which seems justified from the legendary boxer’s perspective.
