Boxing promoter Frank Warren gave some insight on Tyson Fury and touched upon conversations that occurred with the WBC. Warren, who serves as the WBC liaison and Fury’s co-promoter, spoke up on upcoming decisions. Also, he provided an overview of the current boxing division.

Frank Warren explained that Tyson Fury would get a year before he had to face his next WBC sanctioned opponent. ‘The Gypsy King’ was expected to face the interim champion, Dillian Whyte, on a timeline that extended to February 2021. However, Whyte lost his coveted status when Alexander Povetkin brutally KO’ed him on August 22.

Frank Warren chimes in on the future of Tyson Fury

Warren gave some clarity on the situation surrounding challengers that will eventually face Tyson Fury.

“I’ve spoken with the WBC since Saturday and they confirm that even if Dillian beats Povetkin to regain their interim belt the time scale has changed. The thousand days Whyte says he has been waiting for his WBC shot will not count,”

“If he is reinstated as a mandatory challenger, then whoever is their champion will have a year to make the fight.”

Chiefly, Fury will have to go through Deontay Wilder for a second time to actualize the aforementioned fight. Wilder will have a chip on his shoulder heading into the trilogy and will be keen to avenge his loss. Fury stopped him in the seventh round when the two fighters met back in February.
