WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. and the WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney  engaged in a massive war of words in the process of contract agreement ahead of their possible bout. They seemed to be throwing jabs at each at every chance they got.

Initially, in an Instagram video, Russell said that he had accepted the $1.5 million Haney’s side offered him, but the latter put stipulations into the contract.

Haney responded on twitter stating he had sent the offer of $1.5 million and the rematch clause without any stipulations.

Haney again tweeted after sending the contract,”Has anyone seen or heard from Mr. CAP?”

Russell replied to Haney in an Instagram video saying, “I saw your interview, Devin. Ain’t nobody capping, Shorty. You better get your shit together. You see me here grinding. This s*** is real. I’m not playing. Ain’t no capping going on.

“We’re just getting everything situated on our end. To the fans and the people that want to know, they definitely did send the contract over. We’re just putting the particulars that we want just based on the fact that if I beat his little a**, the rematch is on our terms, whatever network I decide.”

Devin Haney, however, was not buying this and commented on the same video “That contract is exactly what you said you wanted on live. Lol you changing shit or your word ain’t shit?”

What is the current status of Devin Haney vs Gary Russell Jr?

In his latest video, however, Russell has turned down the fight offer as he has issues with the statements present in the contract.

He said, “First in line term of sheets states that this fight only takes place based upon only if DAZN and Matchroom picks it up. That’s a red flag, because if ya’ll gonna make a fight, DAZN and Matchroom should’ve already picked it up and they should’ve already been included within the contract, because DAZN is pretty much like Devin Haney’s promoter and Matchroom is pretty the network that we be competing on.

“So how the f*** ya’ll gonna send me a blank cheque, that’s basically what they did, they sent me a blank cheque, they sent me a terms sheet without the network or the promotion which is DAZN and Matchroom, without them being included in it at all,” he added.

All the trash between the two has only added more fuel to the fire and made us want to watch the two square off more than ever. Despite the current disagreements of contract for now, there is a chance they might meet up in the future. If they do, it would be a treat for sure.
