IBF female bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges recently defended her title in a brutal match with fellow Australian Shannon O’Connell. However, despite winning the fight in the eighth round, Bridges did come out as she went in suffering major injuries after the fight.

The most prominent of them was on her hand after it was revealed that she would be coming into the fight sustaining an injury. Following this, the fight only made the injury worse as the world champ showed off her hand, swollen beyond recognition on Social media. Moreover, she has also given the fans an update on her injury.

Ebanie Bridges gives an update about her injury

In a Twitter post, Bridges revealed that she would have to undergo surgery to fix her hand. Along with this, she added that to join her hands the doctors will remove extra bone from her hip. “On my way to the hospital for this surgery. They’re going to take bone from my hip to fuse my joints together in my hand.” she wrote

Bridges fires back at O’Connell following heated insults in the build-up

The match between the two fellow Australian boxers was filled with drama in its build-up. The majority of this was by O’Connell who was not shy to hurl insults at Bridges before the fight. This included her calling the champ a ‘skanky stripper’ aimed as an insult to Bridge’s Only fans account. However, after her victory, Bridges fired back at O’Connell and her entourage. In the post-fight interview, she stated that her performance was not bad for a ‘skanky stripper’. She also claimed that she did not intend to disrespect her opponent but was forced by O’Connell to act this way.

This rivalry might have been put to bed after Bridges’ dominant performance. However, given her current injury, it is likely she will not fight for the majority of next year.
