It looks like Jake Paul has started a dangerous trend in boxing that might not be good for anyone in the long run. Last week, The Problem Child faced 58-year-old Mike Tyson, who made his return to professional boxing after nearly two decades. The match was as bad as you can expect, as Tyson looked out of bounds.

Fortunately, The Baddest Man On The Planet survived the entire match and proved that a boxer can make a successful comeback even after the age of 50. Just a few days after the controversial match, former WBC Heavyweight champion Oliver McCall too made his return to the ring successfully. Things got heated up when McCall called out Jake Paul after the match, leaving the fans worried about this new ongoing trend.

Oliver McCall’s bold comeback plans

TalkSPORT boxing editor Micheal Benson took to his ‘X’ and wrote about the triumphant return of McCall. He wrote, “Former heavyweight world champion Oliver McCall (who knocked out Lennox Lewis to win the title in 1994) returned to the ring aged 59.”

McCall is one of the only two fighters to ever defeat Lennox Lewis. This is one of the most dramatic rivalries in the sport. It began in September 1994, when McCall shocked the boxing world and knocked out Lewis in the second round to clinch the WBC Heavyweight title. It was Lewis’ first career loss and following the defeat ‘The Lion’ even changed his trainer.

Lewis exacted his revenge successfully when the pair met again three years later in February 1997. The fight was controversial, as McCall refused to fight in the later rounds and just strolled around the ring. Referee Mills Lane stopped the fight in the fifth round, awarding a technical KO victory to Lewis. The erratic behavior of McCall highlighted his mental issues and years of substance abuse that have taken over. However, the 60-14 boxer continued to dominate the heavyweight circle for nearly a decade after that fight. He continued to fight until 2019.

Benson further wrote that the fight was officially sanctioned as the Chicago native returned to professional boxing after 5 years. He knocked out his opponent Stacy Frazier, 54, in the second round to make it a triumphant comeback.

However, things took a weird turn after the match when The Atomic Bull stated that he would be 10 pounds lighter for his next fight, implying that he was here to stay for a long time. He then promised to avenge Mike Tyson and stated, “Bring on Jake Paul and I wanna get revenge for Nate Robinson and then Mike Tyson. That would be awesome.”

Fans were not delighted with the trend as it puts the boxer’s lives at risk. They were furious and made sure to cite their opinions in the comment section of Michael Benson’s post.

Jake Paul: A new target for retiree boxers

A user wrote, “It’s honestly wild how Jake Paul has boxers of all ages and talents calling him out right now.” McCall is not the only boxer who has called out Jake Paul after the Texas fight. In just five days since the fight, boxers like Gervonta Davis, Artur Beterbiev, Daniel Dubois, and Nico Ali Walsh have called out El Gallo for a match. It is still unclear whom the former YouTuber will choose next, but it surely is an exciting time.

Another user wrote, “That McCall-Frazier “fight” was as pathetic as you’d imagine,’ stating how sluggish both boxers looked in the ring. However, even the 59-year-old boxer accepted this fact and stated that the next fight would be different. According to him, he will be 10 pounds lighter for the next fight, “so you’re gonna have a lot more technique,” and promised a better contest.

Another user furiously wrote, “This whole thing has to stop,” stating how boxers coming out of retirement for a moment in the limelight is dangerous both to them and the sport. If someone does not stop it at the right time, we might see something tragic happen in the ring soon.

Another user thought the same and wrote, “It’s so dangerous man I wish they’d let the past be the past.” We just saw how Mike Tyson was struggling just to keep up with Jake Paul after the first round. In the final few rounds, it was all about survival for him and nothing else. If Paul hadn’t taken it easy on the former Heavyweight Champion, things might have turned ugly.

Amidst the sea of criticism, one supporter backed the returning boxer. He wrote, “My money is on McCall to win for sure……” betting on the former Heavyweight Champion’s power. However, we just witnessed a few days ago that fighting against an opponent half your age is completely different once you are older than fifty even if the opponent is Jake Paul. If Mike Tyson couldn’t do it, it is doubtful that anyone else can.

It is yet to be seen whether Jake Paul will acknowledge the challenge. However, Oliver McCall has made up his mind to stay active for a considerable amount of time. Let’s see how that will turn out for him.

What do you think about Oliver McCall’s challenge to Jake Paul? Should Jake Paul accept the challenge? Let us know your thoughts down below.
