Veteran referee, Wes Melton, will agree that being the mediator between boxers is sure to put one at the risk of bodily harm. Recently, Melton was at the receiving end of Jorge Cota’s brutal right hook.

Wes Melton was the referee for the Cota vs Yoelvis Gomez showdown at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The duo was fighting as the co-main event alongside the sensational, David Benavidez vs David Lemieux face-off.

Both fighters were caught in a clinch and exchanged punches during the 3rd round. And when there was no sign of them letting go at the sound of the bell. Melton stepped in to separate the fighters. But, Cota, under the pressure of battle, unleashed a final right hook, which clocked Melton on the chest.

However, all the years of experience in the ring seemed to have been in favor of the veteran referee. The battle-hardened Melton took the punch like a champ and walked away as if nothing happened.

Boxing fans react to Wes Melton getting punched

Fans were surprised at the turn of events. Moreover, many of them were especially amazed by the fact that Melton casually walked away after receiving the brutal right hook.

User @Kasqr_ mistakenly thought that Melton got punched in the chin. In fact, the user even mentioned that he had ‘an iron chin’.

However, user @LftKckCemetery was quick to rectify by mentioning that Melton has an ‘Iron chest plate’.
