Similar to this post, many other boxing pages on Twitter posted Bivol’s picture and wished him a happy birthday.

An account named BOXRAW wrote, “What a year.”

No doubt, this was Bivol’s year. He sent a message across with his shocking win-win over pound-for-pound Canelo.

Before this fight, the Russain’s fame was secluded to very limited folks. But things changed overnight when he met the Mexican star. He stepped inside the ring as an underdog and registered a monumental victory at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The four-division champ was stepping up in weight class in order to achieve greatness. He was challenging the light heavyweight title for the second time in his career. He was very confident of his win because Bivol was nowhere close to his aura.

When everyone was convinced of Canelo’s win, the underrated champion was motivating himself against heavy odds. His unflinching belief turned out to be historic. He proved in the ring that Canelo entered the wrong territory.

Following this win, Bivol met another Mexican fighter Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in November in Abu Dhabi. The fight was much anticipated as Ramirez was undefeated and had the physical advantage. But it made no difference. He defeated Ramirez by decision.

Keeping in mind, the winning streak of Bivol at 175lb, ESPN has chosen him the fighter of the year.

Disappointed Canelo has expressed his intention of meeting Bivol again. He believes he moved out of his comfort zone to take challenges but unfortunately it did not turn out the way he wanted. But he is okay with his defeat and would like to meet Bivol at 175lb again.
