Birds of the same feather flock together! Such is the case with Errol Spence Junior and Frank Martin. Both are stablemates under the stewardship of Derrick James. Naturally, Errol Spence Jr is all hyped up about Frank Martin’s upcoming bout against Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, on June 15 for the latter’s WBA lightweight title. Both fighters unleashed venomous verbal onslaughts to gain a psychological edge at the kickoff press conference ahead of their match in MGM Grand Arena. Social media was no exception. It’s clear as day: they both want a knockout on their record.
This will be Davis’ return to the ring after nearly fourteen months of hiatus. His last fight against Ryan Garcia ended up in a KO victory in his favor via a brutal liver shot. Meanwhile, Frank Martin last stepped inside the square circle against Artem Harutyunyan in the previous year and secured a UD victory. With excitement ramping up as fight day approaches, Spence Jr is counting down the days in the hope that it would spell doomsday for the self-proclaimed ‘face of boxing’.

You got a friend in me!
Even though Spence is actively mulling over his choice of opponent for his next fight after the loss against Terence Crawford, his focus is on the immediate future. On June 15, he will be rooting for his stablemate Martin to secure the win over Davis. On X, he tweeted, “Is what it is 9 days #Davis Martin”.

Spence Jr. can be seen routinely boosting the Detroit-born boxer’s morale. Two months before the fight, he tweeted on X, ” “Frank staying focused“. Moreover, the former unified welterweight champion also gave his prediction for the fight. According to him, Martin will knock Davis out in the 7th or 8th round. “Like he’s one of those, he can’t take those early rounds. And I feel like he’s gonna come in the seventh, eighth round, and hope for a knockout. I feel like Frank gonna dominate him, 1st through 12th round, and win a fight,” Spence Jr had stated in an interview.
In March, when the Davis-Martin fight was announced, he pledged his allegiance. “I’m team me & whoever signed with me which is team Frank Martin,”
Both fighters always had each other’s back. Ahead of Spence’s fight against Terence Crawford, Martin said that even though Crawford was a “good fighter”, he didn’t face a boxer of Spence Jr’s caliber. “You know, those guys ain’t Errol Spence Jr.,” he had said. Martin had so much faith in Spence Jr’s abilities that he predicted “a one-sided whooping”. Although Martin was proved wrong, it goes to show the loyalty the two stablemates have towards each other.
Nonetheless, the bonhomie between the two fighters hasn’t bothered Gervonta Davis one iota. Come fight night, he is going in for the kill.

Davis has bad intentions, and so does Martin!
At the kickoff press conference ahead of the June 15 main event between Davis and Martin, the former forewarned that the 29-year-old boxer will face “a different beast in front of him”. “A lot of sh*t built up lot built up and I’m going take it out on him,” he said.

On the other hand, Martin boldly proclaimed, “I’mma touch him up. I’m touch. His, that’s, I’m touch his a** up.”

There is an intriguing element to this rivalry considering that both have sparred each other before in the Mayweather gym. Reportedly, Martin gave him a run for his money. Davis even admitted himself that he was caught by one of Martin’s haymakers in the sparring session. “I sparred already; he was scared to spar. I jumped on him. He’s a southpaw. He threw the brick hand. Boom! That’s what caught me.” he revealed in the Million Dollaz Worth of Game Podcast. However, he was confident he would win on fight night.
With 27 knockouts in 29 fights, Davis is a knockout artist. Can Martin survive the blitzkrieg and cause a major upset on fight night? Or, will Davis be able to do what he usually does with his opponents- knock him spark out? Let us know in the comment section below.
