Although Naoya Inoue and Luis Nery shared the same height, the Japanese boxer had a better reach in the ring. Anyway, as soon as the bell rang, the two boxers occupied the center of the ring and started throwing combinations. In the first round, Inoue dropped his guard as he attempted a lead uppercut, allowing Luis Nery to counter with a right hook. This knocked ‘The Monster’ down for the first time in his career. Yet, Nery could not unfortunately win. So, what did he do wrong?

As per the former WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew, by going down in the first round, Naoya Inoue proved himself to be a human who can be hurt. “The monster has now shown he’s human!!” wrote Bellew. While he appreciated Nery hitting Inoue powerfully, he would have appreciated it if Nery continued fighting aggressively, adding pressure on the Japanese.

You hurt him like Nery did in the 1st round you better not let him off the hook cos he’s only gonna grind you down! Make no mistake Luis Nery is also a brilliant fighter, ” added Bellew. So, for Tony Bellew, one has to keep the pressure on Naoya Inoue should they wish to win. “It’s gonna take something special to defeat Inoue,” Bellew concluded.
