Reigning world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is one of the most feared boxers in the boxing world. Unfortunately, Fury announced his retirement after his victory against Dillian Whyte, much to the dismay of fans. Moreover, fans still fan a flame of hope of seeing the champ make a return. However, ‘The Gypsy King’ seems to be adamant in his decision to stay retired.

TalkSport’s Michael Benson recently shared a tweet detailing Fury’s decision to stay retired. According to Benson, Fury was quoted saying, “People say, ‘One more, two more.’ But if I was in a wheelchair and say, ‘I had four more fights guys and got brain damage.’ I’m the one getting punched in the head by these giant men.”

Moreover, Fury also mentioned that he is sturdy in his decision to stay retired. He said, “I mean it, people. I’ve had enough and I don’t wanna fight no more.”

The sport of boxing pushes an athlete to the limits and can be extremely taxing, both physically and mentally. So it comes as no surprise that Fury chose to retire when he was still in the best of health, both physically and mentally.

One of Tyson Fury’s most sensational rivalries was his trilogy saga with Deontay Wilder. While the first bout ended in a draw, Fury emerged as the victor in the other two bouts of the trilogy. In fact, boxing fans were awestruck by his performance against the formidable Wilder.

However, it can be said that Wilder had a major hand in driving Fury to an early retirement.

Talking about his bout with Wilder, Fury also divulged details of a possible health scare after the bout. He said, “It wasn’t just hunky dory and let’s all skip back to the changing rooms. I was feeling the back of my head and I had lumps on the back of my head like fists. I didn’t know if I had brain damage. I didn’t know what was up with me.”

Moreover, Fury added that he was concussed and had massive swellings on the back of the head. Additionally, he also feared that he would end up with permanent brain damage if he did not retire from the sport.
