In an interview with ‘Behind The Gloves,’ the WBC, lineal, and The Ring heavyweight champ Tyson Fury talked about his struggle and revealed what it takes to become a world champion.

On being asked whether it blew his mind to have come so far, he said:

“It does blow your mind. But it’s all hard work, dedication, determination, sacrifice. That’s what I always say to kids who say, ‘Oh, I wanna be a champion boxer.’ You can’t just be a champion boxer, you got to put all those things in, hard work, dedication, sacrifice.

“Everything has to roll into one for it even to be considered to work. And it’s a long, long time of practicing the same stuff every day for years. Like, I turned pro in this game in 2008, we’re now in 2020.

“That’s 12 years as a professional. Although I had two-and-a-half years in exile, still a long time. Just under 10 years as a proactive, which is a pretty long time, I’d say.”

Tyson Fury and his legacy so far

Fury became the unified world champion in 2015 by beating one of the longest-reigning heavyweights, Wladimir Klitschko. However, he was stripped of the IBF title within the next couple of days and relinquished the rest of them because of other issues shortly after.

He made his comeback after a long lay-off in 2018 and became a two-time world champion after beating the WBC heavyweight champ, Deontay Wilder, in a rematch. The two will fight once again in a trilogy bout in December. Going into this bout, all three of Tyson’s titles will be on the line.
