Tyson Fury is always active on social media. The reigning WBC heavyweight champion took to Instagram to share a video of a former professional boxer named Nick Blackwell. Blackwell was one of the most gifted boxers, but life had something else planned for the brit. ‘The Gypsy King’ has consistently supported fellow British fighters and ensures that their stories do not go unheard by the fans. Fury’s fans admire him for his commendable actions.

The tale of Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell

The person in the video Tyson Fury shared on his Instagram is Nick Blackwell, a former professional boxer. Blackwell became the youngest fighter to have won the English middleweight title at twenty years of age. A bout with Chris Eubank Jr proved life-altering for the ‘Bang-Bang’ fighter. Both fighters fought in March 2016. Eubank Jr won the bout via a tenth-round stoppage.

“I can remember I wasn’t throwing as many shots as I should have, but it is what it is,” said Blackwell in an interview with Talksport, on being asked if he remembers anything from the fight. Nick reportedly faced severe brain damage due to the fight. He was bleeding out of his skull and was carried out of the ring on a stretcher.

The Trowbridge-raised boxer was put into a medically induced coma for a week. As a consequence of the fight, he faced memory loss. Eventually, Blackwell had to retire from professional boxing due to his injuries.

But the fighter’s love for boxing couldn’t keep him away from the ring for long. He returned to the ring for a 12-round sparring session with Hasan karkadi, but this was the worst choice he could make. The session sent Blackwell into a second coma with far more drastic consequences.

Fury salutes the forg0tten warrior

Tyson Fury shared a video of Blackwell on his Instagram story. In the video, Blackwell has a motivational message for his fans. “If you’re having a bad day, you’ve got this. Get a fighting spirit like me. You’ve got this. You can do this. Don’t ever give up,” said the former English middleweight champion.  

The ‘Gypsy King’ appreciated Blackwell’s positivity and his fighting spirit toward life. Fury applauded Blackwell for spreading awareness about mental health and being full of joy even after suffering from a brain injury.
