Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Gets Green Light for November & December Dates

The saga between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former champion Anthony Joshua might finally lead to a matchup soon. The two British boxers have been in a back-and-forth exchange after Joshua’s devastating loss to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in their rematch.
After announcing his retirement earlier this year, Fury has changed his mind on several occasions, hinting at a return. Moreover, he even called out Usyk after his victory, but talks fell through for that fight. Following this, The Gypsy King turned to AJ for a fight, offering him a 60-40 split to book the bout. Fury wanted to set up the fight in November. However, AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, stated that Joshua will not be ready to return until December 17.

Now, Hearn has come out to reveal that the fight can take place at any date. In an interview with Fight Hype TV, the Matchroom CEO stated that it did not make a difference to them when the fight takes place, but ideally, Joshua would be ready by December.

“I don’t know why they offered November 12th, but they did and obviously that is a non-starter for us. Anyways, there’s no difference between November 12th and December like in terms of the fighter’s schedule, you know.” said Hearn.
The reason Fury wants to book the fight in November is to pursue a potential fight with Usyk in early 2023. A fight with Joshua early could give him more time to prepare for the man who beat ‘AJ’ twice.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren revealed this and stated that the heavyweight champion hopes to face Usyk in February or March and has set December 3 as the latest date he wants to fight this year.
Will Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua actually face each other this time?
Fights in boxing are often called off due to challenges in actually pulling off a whole fight card. The two British boxers are the perfect examples of this. A fight between the two was agreed on by Fury and Joshua in 2020, with promoters claiming that the fight would be the biggest in British boxing. However, Fury went on to face Deontay Wilder for the third time due to contractual obligations.

A fight between the two at this stage of their careers could still be a great match-up and this time, both fighters are free from any previous contracts. However, many feel that Fury should take on Usyk in an undisputed title unification bout instead of AJ, who has not earned the right to a title fight.
