The stage is set for the long-awaited showdown where reigning world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury defends his titles against Dillian Whyte. Recently, a video from the press conference showed Whyte not recognizing Fury’s father, former professional boxer John Fury.

Dillian Whyte was being interviewed by a reporter from Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Whyte was especially talking about his face-off with Fury.

However, Whyte was unaware that the person standing next to him was John Fury. In conversation, the reporter notified Whyte of Fury’s presence. Whyte was taken aback by the reporter’s revelation.

In response, Whyte mentioned that he thought it was radio sports expert Steve Bunce. He exclaimed, “Oh, I thought it was Steve Bunce.”

Fury was not very amused by Whyte’s reply. He diverted the topic to the upcoming bout, by saying, Listen then, behave like gentlemen out there.

He also mentioned that his son, Tyson would be coming in his best shape yet. Fury also had a few words of caution for Whyte. He said, “He’s up against an extraordinary foe, Tyson Fury, my son.”

Further Fury ended his words by saying, “The boys have got history, they would have been gentlemen about it. What more can I say, good luck to both men.”

Dillian Whyte vs Tyson Fury

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman had first announced the bout on December 30, 2021. He had mentioned that Fury, being the reigning champion, will be defending his WBC title against mandatory challenger Whyte.

The final deadline for the Fury vs Whyte purse bids was set for January 28, 2022.

Additionally, it was also announced that Frank Warren’s Queensbury promotions have won the bid for the fight promotions. When the ticket sales opened, 85,000 of the available 90,000 tickets were sold within 3 hours. Warren further requested permission to expand the capacity to 100,000. However, only 5000 additional seats were allotted.

Fury will be defending his WBC and the Ring heavyweight titles against Whyte, at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday, April 23.
