YouTube boxer Jake Paul is said to be in talks for a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This update comes after ‘The Problem Child’ defeated legendary Mike Tyson in November. Meanwhile, undisputed light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev, who challenged Paul to a fight himself has shared his prediction for the unconfirmed fight.

After the fight concluded last month, some reports revealed that Chavez Jr. himself had said, he was in talks for a fight against the Cleveland native. “It’s an option. We’re looking into it. Let’s see. This week I have a meeting. I’d be interested in fighting a champion, but fighting Jake Paul for the fame and the media would put me in a position to fight against others,” Chavez Jr. told reporters.

Interestingly, sources suggest that this matchup could potentially become a title fight, despite the fact that neither Jake Paul nor Chavez Jr. currently holds a title or is ranked by any major sanctioning body. WBA’s president, Gilberto Mendoza, stated, “I will insist. I would love to see Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr for a championship.”

The 38-year-old is on his way out of the sport, having last fought in July against now 1-1-0 Uriah Hall at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Chavez Jr. famously lost to Canelo Alvarez back in 2017 and has since appeared in a bout against Anderson Silva, which he lost via split decision. Notably, Jake Paul defeated Silva via unanimous decision in 2022.

Regardless, when Artur Beterbiev was asked about his prediction for the fight in a recent interview with Seconds Out, the undisputed light heavyweight champion didn’t even know who Chavez Jr. was. “Chavez Jr… I don’t know…, I don’t know, who is he?” When informed about Chavez’s former middleweight champion status and break from boxing in 2022 and 2023, Beterbiev gave a reluctant answer.

“I think yes because any boxer can do good boxing,” Beterbiev told Seconds Out. That being said, Beterbiev also revealed why he challenged Paul to a fight.

Artur Beterbiev wanted revenge against Jake Paul

It came as quite a shocker for fans when Artur Beterbiev called out YouTube boxer Jake Paul on social media. However, as it turns out, all he was looking for was revenge for defeating his hero. While appearing in the same interview with Seconds Out, the undisputed champion said, “In boxing, for all time, I have favorite boxers like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.”

He added, “Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson, one of my favorite boxers. My first reaction was, ‘I want to pay him back.’” However, he claims to have cooled down since then, noting, “After a couple of days, it’s good. I don’t want to fight with him.” Still, he hasn’t completely ruled out the idea of fighting Paul, stating, “If he wants, yes. But I think he doesn’t like to fight me.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. might need to step up his PR game, as Artur Beterbiev admitted he didn’t know him. Despite being the son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Chavez Jr. has struggled to replicate his father’s dominance in the ring. Still, a potential matchup between Chavez Jr. and Jake Paul sparks curiosity. Could Chavez Jr.’s experience outshine Paul’s rising momentum, or will the ‘Problem Child’ claim another high-profile victory?
