The newly crowned undisputed lightweight champion of the world spoke to Max Kellerman and gave an insight into his next move. The 23-year-old, fresh from a fantastic performance against an experienced Lomachenko, has his aims set very high.

Despite a lot of competition and good matchups, he suggested that his next goal will be to move up to the 140 lb division and to become a champion.

In the video, Teofimo Lopez said, “Honestly, they need me more than I need them. We did our part, we beat the guy that they didn’t want to fight and we did it in old school fashion. We out-boxed a boxer.

The champion gave an update on his interest and his future. He admitted that right now things are not clear, but stated his desire anyway. He said:

“I don’t know. We got to wait and see. There’s a lot of fish to catch at 140 as well. Trying to make history and become undisputed at 140 is something that is on my mind and has been on my mind.”

This may come as a surprise to some fans. There are some big names in the lightweight division, and it would make for some fantastic fights. Seeing him fight the likes of Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis will draw a lot of attention.

Lopez’s desire to move up may not happen right now. However, at 23-years of age, he has ample time to reach his goal of taking over at 140.

The undisputed king will most probably defend the belts at 135 against another worthy opponent. It is clear to see that no matter what is in front of him, Teofimo Lopez will embrace it.
