Trash talk and call-outs have become a ritual in boxing! In an effort to create buzz around their fights, pugilists often stoop down to insult each other, it’s just how the game works. However, Anthony Joshua is different among them. ‘AJ’ is about to take on Otto Wallin on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ fight card on 23 December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. But the question is – why isn’t the former unified heavyweight champion as verbally irreverent as the other boxers?

Joshua’s choice to not engage in trash talk was especially evident in a recent altercation with Jarrell Miller. While ‘Big Baby’ Miller showcased his trash-talking personality, Joshua refrained from doing the same. In an interview with DAZN, the Englishman revealed why he doesn’t engage in the usual verbal sparring like Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury just to bring attention to the fights.

Anthony Joshua claims he called out Deontay Wilder once

During Off The Cuff interview with the Londoner, the reporter claimed Joshua and Wilder have been calling out each other for six years. So, Joshua quickly corrected him by suggesting he did that just once. He further added that his sole focus is on becoming a champion, so he doesn’t call out other boxers. Joshua went on to claim that he never disrespected people or leveraged press conferences to call out boxers to get a fight.

“I think I called him out once. I’m focused on becoming a champ. So, I don’t call out people. I’ve always known what my thing is! I’ve never had to disrespect, go crazy at calling people out, shout out press conferences in order to get fights. I’ve just been lucky enough,” said Joshua. He credited his PR team and management for securing good fights when good fights present themselves. A recent clip from a confrontation between Big Baby and AJ in a Saudi hotel lobby just goes to prove the point.

Jarrell Miller: “You’re still a b***h”

Joshua and Miller have arrived in Saudi for their respective fights on Saturday night. Back in 2019, Joshua was supposed to defend his title against Miller, but the fight fell apart after ‘Big Baby’ failed his drug tests. So, when they came across each other in the hotel in Saudi, an altercation soon ensued.

Miller, who is no stranger to trash talk, confronted AJ while stating, “I knew I smelled p***y.” However, it failed to provoke Joshua, who maintained his composure and suggested Miller did not deserve his attention. Later on, Joshua underscored his record, questioning, “Look at my record, who have I ducked?” Miller then brought up Joshua’s loss to Andy Ruiz and followed that with, “You’re still a b***h.”

While being separated by their teams and security, AJ did manage to get some words in. “I don’t need to fight you. I’m hosting you. Welcome to my show. Welcome to my show, little b****. You’re working for me on Saturday night! Humble yourself. I’m still your landlord, don’t forget that,” declared AJ while walking away.
