‘The Matrix’ Vasyl Lomachenko has several wins to look back and relish when the final chapter of his career is written. Following a historic 396-1 amateur run, the Ukrainian legend has secured an active pro resume of 15-2, with world titles in three divisions. Having seen so much success, Lomachenko has finally picked his favorite win.

Amid Olympic gold medal victories and multiple world titles, Lomachenko explained why his win over Jorge Linares is the most special one. Vasyl Lomachenko challenged Linares for his WBA (super) and Ring lightweight titles back in 2018 and added both the straps alongside his WBO 135 lbs belt.

Well, it wasn’t a walk in the park for Lomachenko. And that’s what made the outcome so special. Ahead of his fight against Richard Commey, Lomachenko connected with Roy Jones Jr, in a Top Rank feature and explained his favorite win.

Vasyl Lomachenko said, “Linares, because I go down. It’s always be in your head when you go down.”

The 12-rounds slugfest was absolutely electrifying with Linares, dropping Lomachenko with a thunderous shot in round six. It was a maiden instance in Lomachenko’s career that clearly shook him and his fans. However, ‘Hi-Tech’ Loma returned in style. He didn’t let Jorge Linares establish his dominance from then. While the initial rounds were much in Lomachenko’s favor, post-round six, a similar scenario came forward.

Lomachenko used all his skills to batter Linares before ending the show in round 10. Jorge Linares had taken enough damage by then and the referee waved off the fight to make Lomachenko a two-belt unified lightweight champion.

Can Vasyl Lomachenko become a lightweight champion again?

Lomachenko was on a stellar lightweight run before losing his strap to a controversial decision against Teofimo Lopez in 2020. But he returned to win track with a sensational stoppage over Masayoshi Nakatani. He is now on the brink of facing top-tier prospect Richard Commey on December 11 in the MSG, New York.

On bagging a win against Commey, ‘LOMA’ can enter the title race again. He is already a relevant name on the 135 lbs roster. That said, Lomachenko looks favorable to hold the lightweight gold again, unless he explores the other divisions.
