Former world champions- Vasyl Lomachenko and Richard Commey can possibly face each other next. Ukrainian star ‘Loma’ was eyeing a rematch against Teofimo after his latest win. However, the potential fight doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon as Lopez Jr. is yet to come up with an official fight date for his title defense against George Kambosos Jr.

Meanwhile, Lomachenko is looking to remain active after a stoppage win over Masayoshi Nakatani in June. So, Richard Commey might be the one to bring him back to the ropes. According to the reports of ESPN, the fight is in advanced talks and can happen on December 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Although Richard Commey’s camp has said nothing officially, it’s clear that Vasyl Lomachenko will step up on the scheduled date. Irrespective of his opponent, the two-time Olympic gold medalist will headline Top Rank’s PPV that night on ESPN. However, the Ukrainian star no longer has the world title to tout.

Following his loss against Teofimo Lopez in 2020, ‘Take Over’ was freed from his championships. However, he has resurrected himself with a big win over Nakatani, which appeared sufficient for grabbing a title shot. But Lomachenko might have to prove himself once again before getting being afforded that privilege.

That said, a fight against Commey can be a perfect option for him. Boasting a 6-1 record in his last seven fights, Commey is also looking for a viable opponent. That said, the former champions can put forth a good fight by locking horns for the fans.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Richard Commey- The lightweight thriller

Standing at an inch taller, Commey will also have a 6” reach advantage over ‘The Matrix’ if they ever meet inside the ring. Besides, his professional record of 30-3 cites more experience before Vasyl Lomachenko’s 15-2 starts. It would be unfair to belittle Richard Commey’s chances in the fight.

However, Vasyl Lomachenko is also an A-lister and can offer a tough fight to any of the boxers in the lightweight division. Besides, one more victory can be a ticket to the rematch against Teofimo Lopez. This will certainly be enough incentive for ‘Loma’ who wants to return to his former glory.
