Pound for Pound king Canelo Alvarez didn’t see what he was expecting as Roman Gonzalez vanquished his teammate Julio Cesar Martinez on March 5 at the Pechenga Arena in San Diego. It was Martinez’s second loss as a pro, ending an unbeaten run of six years.

Although Martinez could survive all 12-rounds and fight back a few times, he was clearly on the wrong end of a lopsided beat down. Following the scrap, ‘Chocolalito’ Gonzalez earned a comfortable win on the scorecard. Three judges scored the contest 112-116, 110-117, and 110-118, all in favor of WBC (diamond) super flyweight champion, Roman Gonzalez.

While Canelo Alvarez has blamed Ryan Garcia for being absent in regular training, the Mexican star had similar views about his teammate, Andy Ruiz Jr.
