A majority of iconic sporting moments is, in fact, a play on the metaphorical phrase, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’. This phrase particularly stands true in the sport of boxing. In a quest for pugilistic dominance, visually imposing fighters are often seen losing to rather unassuming opponents. With sheer power or impeccable skillset or an unholy union of both, boxers climb the ladder to pugilistic paradise. A recently resurfaced video from 2019, showed a “toothless hil*billy” take down a state wrestling champion in a boxing match. And it is safe to assume that it sent boxing fans into a frenzy.

Cassandra Thorne faced Jennifer ‘Sapphyre’ Wright at the Rough N’ Rowdy in Welch, West Virginia in 2019. Notably, Rough N’ Rowdy Brawl is a wild, and borderline comical, boxing event organized by Barstool Sports. Coming back to this matchup, it should be mentioned that Thorne is a Wrestling State Champion in the state of West Virginia. Meanwhile, Wright is a hardened auto mechanic from the same state.

The fight takes a surprising turn

During the fight, the commentators did not hold back from making a few, rather unkind, comments about Wright. They said, “She is a state champion wrestler, who wrestles a lot of men in West Virginia. And this other girl looks like something straight out of Hills Have Eyes.”

They even went on to say, “She even has no teeth. Yeah, no teeth.”

However, Wright quickly put their comments to rest by unleashing a brutal volley of punches against Thorne. Moreover, she repeated the magic in the following rounds as well.

This, in turn, led to the referee stopping the fight in the 3rd round, declaring Wright the winner.

Fans react to Wright’s win

Boxing fans went wild after the fight resurfaced on Twitter. And they did not hold back from sharing their thoughts.

User @LashaunEllis was quick to point out that Wright beat Thorne while wearing sweatpants.

On the other hand, a few fans also commented on the fact that Wright did not have any teeth.

Meanwhile, some fans mentioned that they were sure that Wright would emerge as the victor.

One user felt that the fight was not a good idea while another wished to give the promoter a medal.

However, user @JordanVitela1 felt that this fight was an instance where the book “can absolutely be judged by its cover”.
