They got into a heated altercation in the crowd, and shortly after, on live TV. The conversation took a comedic turn when the two fighters started talking about being relevant and their followers. Lopez asked Haney how it felt to be relevant because of him.

Haney replied saying, “I was relevant before you. What are you talking about? You’re a clown bro, you’re a clown. So how I’m relevant because of you but I got more followers than you? I have more followers than you though.” Haney then started talking about how he makes more money than Lopez.

Lopez denied the claims, which prompted Haney to ask Eddie Hearn, his promoter, who was standing by them. “This is the problem with society today. You see what I’m saying? You see, that’s the problem with society today. It’s all about followers. It’s not about followers, that’s why you guys fake it till you make it right?” Lopez said in response to this.

Trash talking is a part of boxing and has been for decades. Former world champions like Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali mastered this art. While Tyson would scare his opponents, Ali would continually berate his opponents, making them lose their cool in the ring. What Haney and Lopez had was perhaps the most millennial altercation boxing fans have ever seen.
