Watch: Amir Khan Describes Going Under the Knife for Painful Injury

Boxing is a physically strenuous sport. Not to mention, it is violent, and even while training, one can pick up severe injuries. In a recent podcast, Amir Khan comprehensively explained how the former champion suffered an injury and what his recovery process was like.

Khan retired from the sport in the year 2022. However, the British boxer had a noteworthy career filled with commendable achievements. He was the unified welterweight champion from 2009 to 2012. But the injuries from the time he was competing are still a topic of discussion for the former welterweight champion.

Unfortunately, Khan has been at the receiving end of injuries. In his last bout, the boxer suffered facial injuries with several bruises and swelling on his nose and eye. Due to the punishment taken by him, the fight was called off in the sixth round against his rival Kell Brook.

In a recent podcast named  ‘PODGHOST’, the boxer reminisced about the time he fought with a broken hand also how the surgery took place. He stated, “So what happened?  You got 8 balls of that and mine one lifted and there was a muscle gap. So now what they have done, they have taken the bone from my hips cemented in there and put 7 screws.”

The former boxer also posted the same on his Instagram story. Just goes to show, the aftermath of training and competing in the world of boxing.  Though, Khan states that he recovered from his hand injury after a successful surgery.

Why did Khan retire from the sport of boxing?

Khan had 40 professional bouts under his belt when he retired at the age of 35. After his bout with Brook, the boxer revealed why he desires to retire from the sport. As per Skysports.com, he stated, “I could feel that my love for the sport just wasn’t there anymore, and I decided I was going to call it a day but didn’t know when to announce it.”

Amir also mentioned that he had a successful career while it lasted. He also confessed how boxing changed his life and how he is indebted to the sport.
