As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc over the entire world, the sports community is still to emerge out of its dangers. Although sports events are back on track with eased-out lockdowns, athletes and promoters are still being contracted by the disease, which is alarming. In one such instance, Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came just before this week’s Matchroom event, headlined by light heavyweight boxers Joshua Buatsi and Marko Calic.

While the event is still on the charts and will take place this weekend, Eddie Hearn might not be present in the arena. However, that hasn’t reduced Hearn’s excitement for the upcoming events.

Eddie Hearn just got knocked out by COVID-19

Hearn, 41, turned to social media and broke the news of his physical condition. He posted two quick clips on his Instagram stories and notified about testing positive for the infamous Coronavirus.

The Matchroom CEO said, “Hi, guys, absolute stinker. Just got the news. I have been tested positive for COVID.”

“Now, I am just waiting for the PPE and security to take me out of the bubble and hit home for 10 days to rest.  So it is what it is, stay safe you all. Catch you tomorrow.”

Talking about Matchroom’s upcoming fight, Hearn added, “For the fight this week? Absolutely gutted.”

Well, the unfortunate medical trauma can significantly affect the event. However, Hearn vows to take it ahead with no tussle. That said, everything is already lined up, and fight fans can expect a nail-biting event.

Undefeated light heavyweights, Joshua Buatsi (12-0) will face Marko Calic (11-0) for the WBA International light heavyweight strap. In the co-headliner, Chantelle Cameron will battle Adriane dos Santos Araujo for the vacant WBC super lightweight title.

Apart from that, there will be four more fights on the same night. Thus, Matchroom Boxing is expecting a profitable night for them this weekend.

However, Hearn’s COVID-19 report is still a minor blow to the plans. While he appears optimistic about the situation, the British promoter should recover at a speedy pace.
