WATCH: Anthony Yarde Overcomes Ring Rust to Brutalize Dec Spelman in the Sixth Round

Tonight’s main event saw light-heavyweight competitor Anthony Yarde face off against the tough Dec Spelman. While Yarde is a former title challenger, Spelman is an ex-English champion. Coming off a quick knockout win in his last fight, Yarde was looking to dispatch Spelman and become the first man to stop him in his pro career. Here’s a post-fight breakdown.

The first round started with both fighters feeling each other out, throwing jabs to get in their range. The round was uneventful, with not many punches thrown from either side. But Spelman, being the aggressor for the majority of the round, had the upper hand.

The second round started off with Yarde increasing his advancement in the round. He seemed to throw jabs, trying to set up big punches, but to no avail. However, he was more active in the second round.

How Anthony Yarde turned the bout in his favor

In the third round, Yarde increased the pressure even further and gained confidence, landing more significant shots. The momentum was gradually shifting to his side. The round was all his.

By the fourth round, Yarde had measured his range and was landing lead hooks and uppercuts repeatedly. Although Spelman landed some solid shots of his own, Yarde had the edge.

Both fighters picked up the pace in the fifth round. Yarde unleashed his hands, while Spelman waited for the opportunities and landed only when Yarde had his guard down.

The sixth round, however, was all Yarde. From the beginning of the round, he started throwing flurries on Spelman, who had covered up and was still looking for openings to counter. Although Spelman succeeded on certain occasions, he was getting hit with hard shots to the head and the body constantly.

On one such occasion, Yarde caught Spelman with a hard right hook while the latter was moving out of his range. Yarde, sensing blood, went for the finish and landed one hard blow after the other. He ultimately put Spelman on the canvas with one solid right hand. Although Spelman got up on time, the referee waved off the bout.

Result: Anthony Yarde – TKO (6th round)

Although it was a great performance by Yarde, the main question that fans had going into this fight still remains unanswered. How has Yarde improved on his endurance and will he survive going into the later rounds? Guess we will have to wait more to find out.
