Canelo Alvarez’s brutal training routines

Alvarez is no stranger when it comes to physically demanding training routines.

He underwent a ruthless training camp ahead of his fight with Caleb Plant in 2021. Alvarez and Reynoso focused on old school combat training. A lot of contenders prefer modern machinery and exercise equipment to assist in training camps.

However, Alvarez took to a bare bones gym with an emphasis on old-school strength and conditioning equipment. He also focused on a lot of real-life drills as a part of the training.

Alvarez traveled to San Diego to train for the fight against Miguel Cotto in 2015. He focused on building up his endurance and also his speed.

The workout also shows Alvarez giving a lot of emphasis on bag work and also on footwork drills.

Similarly, Alvarez returned to San Diego to train for his rematch against Gennady Golovkin in 2018.

Alvarez also mentioned that his training strategy differs depending on the fighter. Talking about the strategy he employed for the Golovkin training camp, Alvarez said, “The last fight gave us the blueprint for this rematch. We don’t necessarily have to change the strategy, we just have to add to what we did.”
