23-year-old Isaac Cruz is in for possibly the biggest fight of his life. Due to the unforeseen collapse of the mega matchup between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero, Cruz has now stepped in on short notice to get shot at Tank’s WBA lightweight title.

Rolando Romero brought in a humor and entertainment element into this narrative, which was turning out to be great in terms of PPV interest. While Romero’s removal has lightened the build-up to Davis’ next bout, Isaac Cruz is simply not someone you can miss out on.

At a recent online press conference between, the Mexican fighter was asked about his key strength(s) coming into this matchup against Tank. Isaac Cruz replied without any hesitation that his ability to step forward and capitalize on his power will set the tone of the fight.

As Cruz said this, Gervonta and Leonard Ellerbe listened closely and tried very hard to conceal any facial expressions. But, they just couldn’t hold it in and cracked a wry smile as Davis questioned back, “what about my power?”.

Is Isaac Cruz a worthy opponent for Gervonta Davis?

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is a 23-year-old lightweight contender and the #2 ranked IBF title contender. He faced former champion, Francisco Vargas, in his last fight in June.

This decision to replace Romero with Cruz does not really come as a surprise to fans as he was already in line for a shot against both Davis and Teofimo Lopez. He is a gritty, aggressive, and dirty fighter; the kind that Davis has yet to encounter.

The Mexican definitely has what it takes to trouble the best in the world; hence, it will be interesting to watch how Davis will take on such a fighter.

However, nothing is ever certain in the sport until proven otherwise. Over the years, Gervonta Davis has given the fans exactly what they want by ending 24 of his 25 fights with cold knockouts.

So, it’s going to take a lot out of Isaac Cruz to to put Davis in a position where he is willing to come to terms with having a blemish on his clean record.

Isaac Cruz seems ready to close the year with boxing’s biggest upset

Cruz’s comments at the latest virtual conference clearly indicate that he is confident but not over confident. He is clearly aware of Davis’ potential, but it’s just that he believes in his own strengths and will-power more. That is also one of the reasons why he sees this fight on December 5 being a treat for the fans.

This is going to be a great fight. I’m ready to shock the world and become the next star in the pantheon of Mexican boxing champions. I’m ready to put on a show.

There were a wide array of feelings when I knew I got this fight, but most of all, it made me really motivated to be ready for this opportunity, said Cruz.

We are not overconfident in any way, but Gervonta has not fought anyone with my style and with my characteristics. We’re working really hard to make sure my style will work the best that it can.

The real winner of this fight is going to be the fans. ‘Pitbull’ and ‘Tank’ are going to crash into each other and people will be on the edge of their seats.

It’s up to Gervonta to show that he’s a superstar in the ring. I don’t see him as an impossible task to defeat at all. I always want to fight the best and Gervonta is one of the best. I’m training really hard so that I’m up to that challenge,” he added.
