Mike Tyson was famously known for bullying his opponents within the squared circle when he was in his prime. Well, Tyson seemingly passed on a similar gesture recently, when he came across WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo on his HotBoxin’ podcast.
Tyson didn’t hesitate to list matchups for ‘Hitman’. However, he stressed more on ‘Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez as a viable opponent for Charlo. ‘Iron’ praised Benavidez right in front of the middleweight titlist, which Charlo didn’t seem to like.

Mike Tyson seemed straightforward with his responses, but Jermall Charlo replied and stood strong with his opinion. During the entire conversation, it was clear that Tyson was trying to get under Jermall Charlo’s nerves.
The conversation went like, “Do you ever think about David Benavidez, would you fight him?” (Tyson)
“I will fight him for sure,” (Charlo).
“I got this guy, calling ‘Mexican Monster’ everybody scared of this guy.” (Tyson).
Mike Tyson is great at this! Charlo feels Benavidez’ value is low. Says he’s been waiting to fight Canelo. Mike pretty much tells him to move on and fight the next best guy. Watch this. #boxing pic.twitter.com/qK6MsNYrVw

Although Jermall Charlo has been a middleweight world champion for years, he hasn’t had a career-defining matchup; something which Canelo Alvarez could have enriched him with. Well, Charlo can still aim at plenty of other blockbuster matchups.

The middleweight division is filled with top-level champions like Gennady Golovkin, Ryota Murata, and many eligible contenders. As those names are busy, Charlo should look to retain his belt, see how things play out, and then possibly march towards a middleweight unification matchup.

Aged 55, Mike Tyson is keen on watching some of the fights that have remained a fantasy for years in the sport of boxing. ‘Iron’ has previously done the same with lightweight boxers, as he tried to set up a fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis when ‘KingRy’ appeared as a guest on his podcast.
As Tyson tried to do the same with Jermall Charlo, there’s no denying that the heavyweight icon can be a prominent matchmaker in the middleweight category.
