Mike Tyson was never one to shy away from confrontation. The boxer was famous for beating his opponents before they even stepped foot into the ring with his intimidating aura and mastery of psychological warfare.

Moreover, the boxer is also a very religious person, so it came as no surprise when Iron Mike got into a heated discussion over religion on his podcast with Bill Maher.

Now, shout out to my millennial friends they’re the first generation to be less than 50 percent, I think, who have a religious affiliation. The younger generation more and more are saying, this is a bunch of bulls**t, we don’t need this to live a good life and they see how like immoral so many religious people are, so they’re like why would I want to get involved in this club? It’s hypocritical, it’s not real, and it doesn’t speak to me.” He said.

Tyson then responded by saying that he believed the religion of a person is the same as his conscience.” I believe religion is your conscience. You know what’s good and what’s bad” He told Maher, who disagreed with Tyson and told him that conscience is not the same as religion.” Religion is a system. Religion is a formalized way of thinking with rules and laws and beliefs in things“.said Maher. Tyson then added that according to this logic, everybody would have their own personal religion. “But then everybody would have their own private religion. I’m just talking about the way we get up every morning, we wash our face, we brush our teeth,” said Tyson.

Maher then stated that what Tyson was describing was a regiment rather than a religion and Iron Mike added that they were the same thing.

Mike Tyson defends his religion

Later in the podcast, Tyson goes on to state that religion doesn’t tell a person how to live his life after which Maher asked Tyson about his religion,” aren’t you a Muslim? “. He asked Tyson who went on to defend his religion,” Yes, and its a difficult religion too but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a Muslim and live your religion and still think that somebody should be treated like a human being and not just be dictated by religion.” He said.

Maher then went on to state that Tyson was lucky to be a Muslim in America, where people have much more religious freedom than in other countries.

Tyson seemed to get agitated by this and told Maher that many Muslims in other countries think the same way as they do.”Listen, man, you keep saying that. You know how many Muslims in these countries think like us and you just can’t get over the oppression. So don’t say if I went over no everybody would understand me more than I understand myself.” He told Maher.
