Boxing has seen several incredible matchups since its inception. However, Thomas Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard will seemingly remain one of the best of the lot, considering both men became legends and engaged in fierce fights when they collided inside the ring.

The legendary pugilists called time on their careers long back and currently relish the recollections of their past confrontations. Recently, the iconic pair reminisced about the bygone rivalry in an interaction with heavyweight great Mike Tyson in his podcast.

Akin to several fans, the Hearns vs Leonard rematch continues to allure the former heavyweight champion, and he expressed his reaction to the fight.

Tyson appeared excited right from the outset and hailed Hearns for bringing a charismatic outlook. However, the center attraction was the fight and Hearns came up strong in that too.

“Highlights of the fight, mother f***, Oh Tommy (Hearns) a pretty baby. Ohhhh,” said Mike Tyson.

At the Hotboxin’ studio, Leonard and Hearns comically boasted themselves as superior to each other, which appeared thrilling to watch for the fight fans all around the world. As boxing fans continue to cherish two of the greatest punchers in Leonard and Hearns, here’s a look back to their iconic in-ring battle.

Thomas Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard rematch

The massive event took place on June 12, 1989, at the Caesars Palace in Nevada, and was billed as the ‘Showdown’. After a gruesome original clash, the rematch was filled had a lot of expectations. Hearns vs Leonard 2 lived up to the hype, and both men produced one of the best fights ever in the sport.

The bout went to the last bell, and both men had their significant moments, but Hearns seemingly advanced himself on the scorecard in the primary stage.

‘Tommy’ used his long-range and sharp jabs to trouble ‘Sugar’ Ray, but the tables turned as the fight went deeper. Leonard regained his stance and hit back at Hearns with some commendable shots. Unfortunately, neither boxer had his arm raised as the fight was ruled as a draw. Over a decade later, the matchup is still relevant to the fans and is in the history books for all the right reasons.
