Billy Joe Saunders, the two-division world champion, has turned himself into an elite prospect, walking over several prolific boxers on his way to the top. He is currently the WBO super middleweight champion and is aiming for even bigger challenges ahead.
While Saunders already has umpteen victories in his pro career to look back at, a win over Chris Eubank Jr. could have been the most special one. The two collided in 2014 for the EBU (European Middleweight belt), Commonwealth (British Empire) middleweight belt, and BBBofC British middleweight belt.

Although Saunders won the fight, it was never easy for him. Chris Eubank Jr. showcased his abilities and kept the show running. He also troubled Saunders for a brief period until receiving the same from the other end. Here’s how the fight looked like.

Billy Joe Saunders vs Chris Eubank Jr- The middleweight treat
Following a successful win over John Ryder, Saunders remained inactive for almost a year. However, he returned against Chris Eubank Jr, with the titles on the line. Meanwhile, Eubank Jr., who was highly active, competed six times in 2014, before stepping up against ‘Superb’ Saunders.
Their collision lived up to the hype. From the initial stage, both men took time to figure out the other. A southpaw in Saunders, and an orthodox in Eubank Jr., unleashed a dogfight. As the fight went deeper, Saunders appeared more comfortable.
He dictated the pace and range of the fight. Moreover, Saunders’s sleek jabs were treacherous, which played a huge tile in the fight’s outcome. Although the matchup could have ended in a flash, the boxing elites dragged each other to the extreme and went to the last bell, leaving it all in the ring.

However, the judges scored the contest 113-116, 115-114, and 115-113 in favor of Billy Joe Saunders. The split decision win remains one of the major victories in Saunders’s career.
