Canelo Alvarez has been mostly invincible inside the boxing ring. But his initial days in the sport had put him before some sheer challenges. Floyd Mayweather is the sole boxer to have vanquished the Mexican star in a pro-bout. However, several others could also trouble him. Although Alvarez found his ways to topple them and reach where he is at today, several instances verify the fact of him being vulnerable in the ring.

Looking at these instances, Alvarez’s future opponents can craft a plan to overpower him somewhere down the line. Although it is tough, they will know that it is possible.

Back in 2010, Jose Miguel Cotto almost stopped Canelo Alvarez in the maiden round of their fight. While the matchup ended with Alvarez scoring a ninth-round TKO, the first round offered a very contrasting sight. Cotto poleaxed Alvarez with combinations and power punches that left him wobbling on his feet. Canelo Alvarez was shaken and his footwork was gone. Cotto came extremely close to stopping Alvarez, but the current P4P king regained himself in the bout.

He clawed his way into the fight and caused damage to Cotto with every passing round. In round 9, Alvarez pinned the final nail to the coffin and earned a sensational TKO win against Jose Miguel Cotto.

Apart from Jose Cotto and Floyd Mayweather, Alvarez came across his toughest tests when he fought Erislandy Lara and Gennady Golovkin. The Mexican elite beat both the men. Nevertheless, the split-decision win against Lara was controversial, as several people viewed the fight differently.

Meanwhile, the first fight between Golovkin and Alvarez ended in a draw which could have also gone in GGG’s favor. All these factors have urged several boxers to believe they can beat Canelo Alvarez. Nevertheless, only Floyd Mayweather can boast that achievement.
