The WBA have issued an ultimatum to both Andrew Moloney and Joshua Franco for their trilogy. This comes as a result of the controversial fight that ended in a no-contest. The two were fighting for the WBA Super-flyweight championship of the world when the referee decided to call off the fight. As you can expect, this caused a huge stir in the world of combat sports and many were calling for a re-match straight away.
The two were fighting on the undercard of Terence Crawford vs Kell Brook. And with Moloney dominating the first two rounds, he seemed on course to become the champion. However, the fight was stopped to check an accidental headbutt; after more than 25 minutes of checking, the referee deemed it to be a headbutt and called it off. However, many felt that there was no contact, and Moloney himself said the swelling was due to multiple jabs.

Why was the Andrew Moloney vs Joshua Franco fight so controversial?
There were two aspects of the entire thing. The first being that the refereeing panel took so long to make a decision on the matter, with both fighters just waiting in the ring. It took them almost 30 minutes to make a decision, and they were just playing the same clip over and over again. This made people question the referee’s ability and also the use of the video referral.

The other side of the controversy stemmed from the fact that many felt that there was no headbutt at all. The footage that the referees were reviewing showed no headbutt to the right eye, and left fans bemused at the whole thing.
Either way, they can now put the controversy to bed once and for all with the trilogy fight. We could see it happening in the first quarter of 2021. Who do you think will come out on top in that fight between Andrew Moloney and Joshua Franco?
