There was a lot of speculation in 2022 over a possible matchup between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the former WBC middleweight champion. But the matchup never ended up working out. However, the bout is now again a possibility, and President of the World Boxing Association, Gilberto Mendoza has suggested that the two square off for a championship bout.
Chavez defeated former UFC fighter Uriah Hall on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry clash this past weekend. Despite the win from Chavez Jr, his performance against a novice boxer lacked much of an impact. His once-celebrated boxing career is currently ebbing, but a potential fight with Paul may put it back on track. If not, the former champion will at least be able to retire with a lucrative paycheck.
The WBA president took to his X account to put forth the possibility. After congratulating Jake Paul for putting on a good show, he wrote, “I am not against a @jakepaul v. @jcchavezjr for a championship…”. Although Paul is a relevant name in the world of boxing, he has never fought for a title. A WBA belt would definitely have a significant impact on his resume. In addition, after his amazing performance against Perry, fans can’t wait to see Paul take on more experienced and stronger opponents in the boxing ring.

Moreover, Paul had mentioned in a tweet in July 2022 that Chavez Jr., “was near the top of the list. But unfortunately he is going through rehab. Hopefully in the future.” Since the Mexican boxer is now back in the game again, Paul could consider him as a potential opponent. However, after a less-than-satisfactory win against a 1-0 Uriah Hall, the 17,000-strong crowd at Amalie Arena in Tampa couldn’t help but boo after Chavez Jr received the decision. But that didn’t stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr from calling Jake Paul out.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr believes he is a cut above Jake Paul
After his bout against Hall, the son of the Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez expressed his thoughts about facing the YouTuber-turned-boxer and said, “I want to fight a champion, but a fight against Jake Paul would be a great fight too. None of those boxers he’s fought know how to do what I do.”

The 38-year-old seems comfortable with the prospect of taking on ‘The Problem Child’ in the ring. In fact, he had previously stated that if he lost to Paul in a fight, he would rather give up on the sport and retire. However, only time will tell if this fight actually happens. Speaking of Paul’s career, he is currently preparing for his November 15th matchup with legendary boxer Mike Tyson. But do you believe Paul would consider fighting Chavez Jr after that?
