Joshua Franco vs Andrew Moloney’s rematch ended in a controversial manner after the referee Russel Mora called a stoppage to the bout at Franco’s request.

El Professor called a stop to the bout after complaining of complete blindness in his right eye that his team claimed was a result of a headbutt that had taken place in the first round. In the process, Franco retained his WBO (regular) super-flyweight title.
However, the decision did not sit well with boxing fans around the world. Millions of opinions poured in after a ridiculously long half-hour review from the Nevada Athletic Commission could not determine the actual reason for the severely swollen eye.

Meanwhile, Moloney maintained that his ’50 jabs’ were the reason why Franco suffered an injured eye. Be that as it may, it seems like WBO has heard the boxing fans, and there’s a possibility that the decision could be reversed.

If not for the controversial decision, it could have been a TKO win for Moloney. The Monster dropped the super-flyweight title in his first professional loss against Franco in July last year.

It looked like Moloney would reclaim his throne, considering the quick start in the rematch. Needless to say, not many expected it to end the way it did for the former champion.

Should the decision be reversed in Joshua Franco vs Andrew Moloney 2?
Needless to say, the benefit of the doubt should always go to the boxer putting his/her belt on the line. In this case, despite the argument that Moloney looked like the better fighter, there’s no denying that an accidental head-butt did take place.

The Nevada Athletic Commission took its time to review the replay. However, the absence of any solid evidence rendered the fight a no-contest.
