Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has issued an ultimatum to Ryan Garcia. The 26-year-old is gearing up to face his toughest challenge in WBA (Regular) Lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. Floyd Mayweather downplays Ryan Garcia’s skills

In a recent interview with Fight Hype, the former five-division champion expressed his preference for Davis, highlighting the differences between him and Garcia. According to Mayweather, ‘Tank’ Davis earned his spot through his skill in the ring, whereas ‘KingRy’ gained popularity through his YouTube presence. He also asked Garcia what his true intentions for boxing were.

“Y’all talking about being scared of Ryan Garcia. ‘Tank’ got his followers for kicking ass. Ryan Garcia got his followers from YouTube. There’s a difference. So you want to be a YouTuber or you want to be a fighter. Tank is a fighter. He showed that he can dish it out as well as take it. But we’re not in the game to take punishment,” said Mayweather.

‘TBE’ thinks that Garcia is not a true fighter and lacks the toughness and resilience required. However, it is worth noting that Mayweather has a long-standing relationship with Davis and has been a mentor to him throughout his career. Thus his comments could be seen as an attempt to boost Davis’ confidence ahead of the fight.

Gervonta Davis’ relationship with Mayweather after parting ways

While Mayweather might have some respect for Davis, he is not letting the latter’s departure slide off easily. This was proved after he banned his former student from entering the gym. Davis confirmed this during a Twitter spat with Garcia, where he mocked Mayweather’s ‘Pretty Boy’ nickname and claimed he did not care about his ban. “What that Floyd pretty a*s said I couldn’t use his gym anymore… I don’t give a f*ck! Nah it’s not what I heard it’s what I know chump,” he wrote.

Although the exact reason for this is unknown, it could be due to Davis’ departure. However, the two parted ways amicably. Additionally, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe also picked the match in favor of ‘Tank’. Recently, Mayweather and ‘Tank’ were seen interacting during the Benavidez vs Plant fight.
