Floyd Mayweather owns a NASCAR team! But has he ever been honored as the Grand Marshal for one of NASCAR’s Busch Light Clash? No! Saul Canelo Alvarez has taken the lead in that regard, as the officials at NASCAR announced on Monday that he will be the Grand Marshal for the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum on February 4. However, what exactly is Canelo’s job as the Grand Marshal?

Canelo Alvarez is coming off a fantabulous victory over Jermell Charlo, a fight held in September last year. And now, the Mexican superstar is rumored to face his twin brother Jermall Charlo, possibly in the Cinco de Mayo May 4 event. However, before he enters the ring on May 4, he will enter the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to do this!

Canelo Alvarez has the most important role in the event

Addressing Canelo’s involvement in the race, Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s senior vice president for racing development and strategy, said, “Canelo is synonymous with strength, victory, and triumph,” per Fox 11 Los Angeles. Kennedy then went on to reveal Canelo’s role in the upcoming annual non-championship pre-season NASCAR Cup Series exhibition event. “He’s a fan favorite in Los Angeles and Mexico, and we’re honored to have him give the command to start engines for the Busch Light Clash,” said NASCAR’s senior vice president.

Moreover, the race will kickstart at 1:30 PM on Sunday at the Coliseum’s temporary, quarter-mile asphalt track. It will begin with the NASCAR Mexico Series’ King Taco LA Batalla en El Coliseo. Following that, NASCAR Cup Series’ Busch Light Clash will begin at 5:00 PM. While Canelo is being honored by NASCAR, an expert from his own sport has chosen someone else as the best in Canelo’s division.

Famed boxing trainer and analyst claims this fighter “belongs ahead of Canelo”

In an interview with ProBox TV on 24 January, Teddy Atlas suggested Canelo is a great fighter without a doubt, but he has several blemishes on his record. “Obviously, Canelo could easily be the number one pick, but he has got two losses and two draws,” Atlas told the panel of experts. Whereas Atlas claims David Benavidez is the better fighter and has the potential to go further.

“Benavidez has a chance to continue growing. To continue getting bigger, better, and he is [already] naturally the bigger guy, naturally the stronger guy,” said Atlas. Citing those as the reasons, Atlas suggested ‘The Mexican Monster’ should be counted as a better fighter than Canelo Alvarez. “I’m going to say that right now, at 27-0, he belongs ahead of Canelo,” said Atlas.
