Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia has decided he won’t face Mercito Gesta on January 28 in hopes of being in better shape for his potential bout against Gervonta Davis. The two rivals have been at the forefront of the booming lightweight division with many fans wanting the two pugilists to meet in the ring.

Moreover, their heated rivalry over the years will only make their eventual match-up even more intriguing. Despite the fact that the two were ready for tune-up fights, with Davis taking on Hector Garcia on January 7, ‘The Flash’ has now changed his mind.

Ryan Garcia nixes his tune-up fight
Garcia took to social media and made this announcement and ‘refused’ to fight in January. Although he apologized to the fans who wanted to see him fight. He claimed that he was ready for ‘Tank’.
“I refuse to do another tune up. I’m ready for this moment. In my heart I didn’t want to do that to you guys! We are coming straight for Tank! I apologize to any that wanted to see me in Jan but this fight is everything let’s get. You guys seen me from the garage training and now to the biggest stage” he wrote.

However, the fans were having none of Garcia’s claims as they reacted to this shocking announcement.

Fans sound off on Garcia for ducking his next opponent
One fan claimed that Garcia would get knocked out in two rounds if he faced Davis.
“You get knocked out in 2 rounds if anything bro, Davis is gonna destroy you fr” he wrote.
Another fan stated that Garcia was not ready for this fight.

“You don’t want Tank. You’re not ready at all” he wrote.
One fan wondered if Garcia was pulling out of this fight for his mental health, which he has done before.

Moreover, a fan hilariously stated ‘The Flash’ pulled out of the fight to not get defeated before facing Davis.
“Bro aint wana risk getting knocked out before Tank” he wrote.

One fan sounded off on Garcia for canceling the majority of his fights.
“Man when is this guy not canceling or postponing things,” he wrote.
However, one fan was excited to see the two dish it out in the ring as he claimed that this would be the first fight he paid for in years.

The fans certainly did not empathize with Garcia’s decision to cancel his fight. However, the silver lining in this is that he will not have any excuse when he takes on the two-division world champion in April.
