However, the former 5 division champ has revealed how he felt when Davis requested to leave his promotion. Mayweather has been ‘Tank’s’ promoter since the start of his professional career back in 2013. Since then, ‘Money’ has guided him on his journey to becoming a multiple-division champion like Mayweather himself. Thus, it was no surprise when ‘TBE’ saw a bit of himself in Davis.

In the interview, he stated that it was an indescribable feeling when he got a chance to take a child similar to himself under his wing and help him become a multi-millionaire. “There is nothing like taking a kid that comes from the same background as you and helping them put them in a position to become a multi-millionaire you know,” he said.

Mayweather even detailed the time Davis came up to him for an autograph when ‘Money‘ foreshadowed Davis becoming a future champion. However, he then claimed that if ‘Tank’ felt like he was well off without his mentor, he should make his own path.

You meet this kid he comes up to you for an autograph. You signed the autograph for him then I tell him in a few years when you get older. I’m gonna work with you and I’m going to make you a world champion someday. Years later I started working with him, helped him, pushed him to be great, and if he feels like he grew wings where he can fly and becomes his own boss, more power to him,” Mayweather added.

Davis recently took to Twitter and asked for termination from Mayweather’s promotions. However, he then deleted the tweet, sending mixed messages about his position with the promotion. In addition to this, he is set to make his return to the ring in January against Luis Garcia. The bout will take place in the Capitol One Arena in Washington DC as Davis aims for a potential bout with Ryan Garcia in 2023.
