‘The Cannon’s’ life was filled with hardships he had to overcome to reach this level of success. Now that we know about his nationality and ethnic identity, let’s take a closer look at his early struggles. And how he fought through them on his path to the title.

The American boxer’s early life and background

When it comes to rags-to-riches stories, Brandon Adams’ life fits perfectly. Growing up in California, he was surrounded by gang violence and constant turmoil. After years of struggle, he discovered boxing as a way to escape those harsh realities. It not only gave him the strength to defend himself but also ignited a passion to master the sport. After countless backyard brawls, his neighbor Big Al noticed his potential and stepped in as his mentor and first trainer.

Adams chose boxing, and this decision truly changed his life forever. He turned professional in 2011 and went on an impressive run until suffering his first defeat in 2014 against Willie Monroe Jr. That loss didn’t slow him down — on the contrary, the American fighter bounced back with a three-fight winning streak. In 2015, however, he faced John Thompson, who handed him his second professional defeat and first knockout loss. Still, even that wasn’t enough to hold him back.

‘The Cannon’ regrouped and put together an even more impressive four-fight winning streak, capturing The Contender 5: Finals, which earned him a title shot against Jermall Charlo for the WBC Middleweight crown in 2019. Unfortunately, Adams couldn’t seize the biggest opportunity of his career, falling short via unanimous decision. Still, he bounced back again, repeating another four-fight victory run before stumbling in the fifth — most recently against Andreas Katzourakis in November 2024.

That said, as Brandon Adams prepares to step back into the ring at the Canelo vs. Crawford event, the big question remains: Does he have what it takes to avenge that loss and start another winning streak? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
