Where is Keyshawn Davis from? Ethnicity and nationality

Keyshawn Davis was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, making him an American by nationality. He proudly represents the United States in boxing, having competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he won a silver medal. Regarding his ethnicity, Davis is African American. His deep connection to his hometown is evident as he frequently gives back to the Norfolk community. Ahead of his highly anticipated homecoming fight against Gustavo Lemos on November 8, 2024, Davis visited Jacox Elementary School, where he once studied, to inspire the next generation.

Davis has always looked up to fellow Norfolk boxing legend Pernell ‘Sweet Pea’ Whitaker, who held multiple world titles and fought at Scope Arena, the very venue where Davis headlined his last fight against Gustavo Daniel Lemos. As one of boxing’s brightest young stars, Davis continues to honor Norfolk’s rich boxing legacy while making a name for himself on the global stage.

In an interview on Cigar Talk, Davis revealed that he previously relied on marijuana to cope with mental health issues. However, after testing positive for the substance last October, leading to a suspension and a no-decision ruling in his fight against Nahir Albright, he decided to make a change.

“It wasn’t until I made a promise to God that I was gonna stop smoking,” Davis said. “I didn’t honor that promise, right? Days go past, something don’t feel right. Long story short, I was like, ‘yo I just lied to God.’”

Realizing the weight of his actions, Davis repented and, according to him, had a profound experience with God. “Honestly, after I did that, God took my urge away. I had an encounter with God, honestly. Ever since that day, I repented and really felt bad. I never had the urge again.”
