Of course Golovkin won’t fight me. DAZN Boxing, make him unify! [Promoter] Tom Loeffler, you don’t got enough confidence in your guy?? Yeah, this is a direct challenge to Tom, [trainer] Johnathan Banks and GGG… Where [are] your balls,” said Andrade.

Cards on the table for Demetrius Andrade

Demetrius Andrade made a mandatory defense for his WBO middleweight title against Liam Williams in April 2021. Andrade dominated the 12-round bout and won by unanimous decision. The WBO champ has even taken shots at Canelo Alvarez since his victory over Williams in April. However, promoter Eddie Hearn suggested Andrade should aim at unifying the middleweight division against athletes like Jermall Charlo instead.

Eddie Hearn recently also shared the possibility of negotiations between Jermall Charlo and Demetrius Andrade. Jermall Charlo has expressed an interest in sharing the ring with Andrade. However, he suggested the WBO champ should first face Juan Montiel, Charlo’s last opponent. He added that a matchup with Andrade could be difficult because of network and promotion-related issues.

While it seems like going through Montiel is the only way to get the Charlo fight, Andrade also has the option of fighting for unification against Gennady Golovkin at 160 lbs.

With both fighters being under the DAZN network umbrella, arranging and negotiating for a fight with Gennady Golovkin would be easier than going after Jermall Charlo.

However, GGG’s recent update on putting the Andrade matchup on hold till year-end might drive the 33-year-old WBO champ to fight someone else for a voluntary defense. It will be interesting to see how Eddie Hearn plays this out for Demetrius Andrade.

Hearn has earlier called him “the most avoided fighter” that he has ever worked with; he has had trouble creating matchups for him even within the promotion.
